Making Sense of Adrenal Support

2/25/2016

A common question is how to figure out if you need to support adrenal function. Mercury affects the adrenal glands and reduces adrenal function. It can cause sleep issues, anxiety, tantrums, meltdowns, mystery stomach aches, morning nausea, allergies, asthma-like symptoms, and hyperactivity.

Adrenal fatigue is generally an imbalance in adrenal hormones or too little of some of them. It's more common for kids to be low cortisol or to have disrupted cortisol cycles, often releasing it at the wrong times. Many are stuck in "fight or flight" mode when the adrenal glands compensate for low cortisol by releasing adrenaline leads to anxiety and panic attacks. Cortisol levels reduce inflammation, keep the lungs from being over constricted (asthma), reduce allergies or overactive immune responses, and help with our sleep/wake cycle.

Not all children will have adrenal problems, but it is very common in children with mercury. If your child has some of the symptoms mentioned above our book has a chapter that will help you determine if this is an issue for your child and what you can do about it.

Thank you for your article. What is the best way to test whether the adrenals are running insufficiently? How common generally is this in children? Is there an easy way to test the whole family perhaps?
Many thanks and blessings, Bernie

Hi Bernie,
The best way to assess adrenal function is using Dr. Rind's temperature chart and a list of adrenal fatigue symptoms to see if this indicates adrenal problems. I find this condition is common in children and often overlooked. We find many parents we work with have children with poor adrenal function. This was a key feature of some of my child's symptoms and providing adrenal support alleviated those symptoms.
